Kogakuro
Kogakuro might not look like much from the outside, but a warm, friendly and comfortable ryokan-style hotel is waiting for you inside. Despite its age, the hotel has held up well and, although dated, the rooms and communal spaces are well kept, clean and incredible inviting. The hotel is family run and this is obvious - owner Mieko will ensure she and her staff go out of their way to assist you and make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
The hotel also houses a restaurant, which serves an impeccable dinner and large buffet breakfast daily. Of course, these dishes are prepared with attention to detail and with care, using fresh and local ingredients, evident through a continually changing menu and the deliciously unforgettable taste of each meal. The dining room itself is quite spacious, but the décor provides a wonderful relaxing ambience and the natural light in the morning ensure you're nice and awake.
Adjacent to the dining hall is the communal lounge space that all guests rave about in their reviews. Featuring vaulted ceilings, stunning large windows and incredibly comfortable furniture, the lounge offers all guests a spot to unwind, catch up with your travelling party or get to know other guests. Often you'll find staff here relaxing, too, and having a chat to them here is a great way to get some insider knowledge about Myoko's best kept secrets.
The lounge also doubles as a bar, serving some basic alcohol as well as coffee and tea, great in the morning, afternoon and evening. The hotel's ski storage room offers both a communal space as well as some lockers, while the drying room is fitted with the essentials. The hotel itself is located right in their heart of town, only a two minute walk from both the ski lifts and the nearby bars, restaurants and onsens.
Guests have easy access to free Wi-Fi both in the communal spaces and throughout the rooms, and those looking for an extended stay are welcome to make use of the coin laundry provided. If all of these great facilities weren't enough for you, the rooms and the dining are incredibly affordable and well worth the comfort, tranquillity and hospitality on offer.

Kogakuro's Japanese style rooms are brightly lit, beautifully and subtly decorated, and offer an immersive cultural experience. Some rooms are attached to ensuite bathrooms with showers, while some aren't equipped with showers - but all guests say they prefer bathing in the stunning onsen anyway. The rooms aren't incredibly spacious, but can easily sleep three, and feature a traditional dining area, lounge space and large windows with plenty of natural light. There are also rice paper dividers, tatami flooring - of course - and great art that lends a homey and inviting ambience to the rooms. All rooms are fitted with some tea/coffee making facilities, heating and air-conditioning and with televisions, too, so you're sure to be entertained and comfortable throughout your stay.- Television

Onsen & Spa
In-house Onsen
If you’re the kind of person who likes their onsens tranquil, hot and surrounded by beauty, this hotel has just the spot for you. Kogakuro features indoor and outdoor onsens for men and for women, but it’s hard to argue that the outdoor onsens, surrounded by stones and beautiful greenery, aren’t by all means the better option. However, both of the onsens are naturally heated and mineralized and all are free for guests to use, so you are free to make your own decision when you see for yourself. That isn’t to say the indoor onsen isn’t beautiful though – the room overlook some stunning greenery, too, and is filled with natural light that filters through large picture windows lining the walls.
