Akakura Hotel
Akakura Hotel enjoys an exceptional location in the very heart of the Myoko Kogen ski resort area. Situated within Akakura Kanko Village, guests have immediate access to a wide selection of restaurants, bars, and shops, with the ski slopes just a short walk away (less than five minutes). In a destination as popular as Myoko — where demand far exceeds the supply of modern, newly built accommodation — location and availability are key strengths, and Akakura Hotel continues to be one of the most reliable and well-positioned options in the area.
One of the hotel’s standout features is its extensive onsen facilities, widely regarded as among the best in the region. Guests can enjoy a variety of indoor, outdoor, and private onsen baths, with both shared and gender-separated options available. The baths include stone, wooden, and tile styles, many of which are accessible from early morning through to evening, with some open 24 hours. Additional wellness facilities include Jacuzzi baths, a sauna, and massage services, all available by reservation — ideal for unwinding after a day on the slopes.
The hotel’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. Breakfast is complimentary and offers a mix of Western and Japanese dishes, while lunch and dinner focus on traditional cuisine prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Additional on-site facilities include a business center and conference rooms with internet access, as well as leisure options such as a karaoke room and games corner. During the summer months, guests can also enjoy the hotel’s mini golf course.
As with many long-established ski hotels in Myoko Kogen, Akakura Hotel is a traditional Japanese property and the rooms reflect this heritage. Accommodation is simple, functional, and somewhat dated in style; however, rooms are well maintained, clean, and comfortable. Guests can choose between Japanese- and Western-style rooms, with the annex offering more budget-friendly options and the main building providing larger rooms with additional amenities. All rooms feature ensuite bathrooms, basic entertainment, and tea and coffee-making facilities, with Japanese-style rooms offering traditional tatami living spaces.
The hotel also provides a complimentary shuttle service around the town. Guests are welcomed in the lobby by “Pepper,” the hotel’s robotic concierge, who assists with check-in and general enquiries — a quirky and memorable touch.
Akakura Hotel is best suited to travelers who prioritize unbeatable location, excellent onsen facilities, and value, and who understand that accommodation in Myoko Kogen largely reflects the area’s long-established ski culture rather than modern resort luxury. Given the limited number of contemporary properties in the region and consistently high winter demand, this hotel remains a popular and practical choice for skiing in Myoko and continues to book out quickly each season.

Onsen & Spa
In-house Outdoor Bath "Yuryoku no yu"
Guests are treated to a huge variety of onsens at Akakura hotel, including spacious indoor onsens, beautiful outdoor onsens and romantic private baths that can be used with reservation. The large indoor onsen, Uenn-no Yu, offers separate baths for male and female and is attached to a sauna and a jacuzzi which are free for use. Rakuraku offers a huge indoor space with three separate pools, creating a steamy, brightly lit room in which plenty of people can relax together, and is also open 24 hours. There is also a stone onsen, Ishiwari-No Yu, which is rather small and ideal for one or two people, but provides a very tranquil and earthy atmosphere to your quiet time.
The private baths, Tenkuu-no Yu, Myoko-no Yu and Koban-no Yu, are naturally far smaller than the public ones, but offer a beautiful and scenic experience that can be easily used as either a part in a romantic evening with a partner or a splendid solo treat. During the summer, only two of the baths are open, and reservations must be made in advance to use the private onsens throughout the year.
