Tokiwaya Ryokan
Tokiwaya offers a glimpse into Japanese culture, featuring a multitude of rooms each with its own distinctive décor, yet all containing traditional architecture, tatami flooring and complimentary yukata robes for guests. There are a variety of rooms to easily accommodate groups of two to four, making it an ideal destination for couples or families.
The hotel also features its own Japanese restaurant, which serves breakfast and dinner each day. The cuisine is authentic traditional dishes that bring exciting flavours and fresh, local ingredients together. If you're looking for some variety, though, you're located in the centre of town and finding other dining options definitely won't be an issue.
The hotel also features a number of naturally heated and mineralized onsens, each of which is surrounded by tranquil décor and natural materials that help ground and relax each visitor. Paired with a massage, it's the ideal way to spend a relaxing afternoon. The hotel also happily treats guests to ski rental services and the friendly, English speaking staff are more than happy to help arrange transport, ski passes or day trips around the area. You definitely won't be at a loss in regards to keeping yourself busy.
The hotel itself is quite old, which both lends charm to its character and traditional atmosphere and shows in the rooms. Some wear and tea is visible throughout the hotel, but the facilities are kept clean and tidy for all guests. So, if you don't mind your tatami mats a bit worn, you're sure to enjoy yourself at Tokiwaya Ryokan.

Onsen & Spa
In-house Onsen "Empress Komyo's 1000-Person Hot Spring"
Said to be one of the largest onsens in the region, Tokiwaya’s gorgeous indoor onsens are naturally heated and mineralised, meaning they’re not only good for relaxing but also for soothing aching muscles and might even help with skin issues! The onsens are situated indoors, surrounded by designs featuring natural materials such as rocks and timber and, of course, some traditional décor.
There’s also more than enough baths to go around, each with its own specific purpose, temperature and décor. The onsens are open throughout the day and night, and only close for a short time in the morning for cleaning. Note, however, that the baths are separated for men and women, but private baths can be booked in advance.
