Chalet Hakuba

Chalet Hakuba is a warm and welcoming retreat in the forested Wadano area of Hakuba, just 250 metres from the Sakka Quad Lift and kids’ snow park at Happo-One. This spacious property is ideal for groups of friends, two to three families, or extended families seeking comfort, convenience, and great value within easy reach of the slopes.

Once a traditional Japanese pension, Chalet Hakuba has been thoughtfully and extensively renovated by new owners to create a charming and comfortable ski resort chalet that blends original character with modern features. While it isn’t brand new, the upgrades to the kitchen, living areas, and bathrooms have been done with care and style to meet the expectations of today’s travellers — with a few nostalgic creaks in the floorboards to remind you of its history.

Inside, there are 10 comfortable bedrooms — three with en suite bathrooms — and a combination of newly renovated shared facilities. On the second floor, guests have access to two modern Western-style bathrooms with full-sized bathtubs and showers. The third floor features three compact Japanese-style "unit baths," plus three additional shared toilets and sinks throughout the chalet. We provide plush towels, robes, hairdryers, and brand-name toiletries for your comfort.

The spacious open-plan living and dining area on the second floor is the heart of the chalet, with large sofas, a projector with Apple TV, and ample room for group dinners or quiet relaxation. A second lounge downstairs offers a more casual hangout space with a Hulu-enabled TV and a billiards room — perfect for après-ski fun. You'll also find a well-stocked selection of board games, books, and magazines for cozy evenings in.

The large, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for group cooking: a five-burner stove, full oven, waffle iron, smoothie blender, bread maker, panini press, and Nespresso machine. A welcome food and drink pack awaits your arrival too.

Families are especially well catered for, with a dedicated kids' play area featuring a Lego wall, toy BBQ, walkie-talkies, and snow toys. Outside, there's plenty of room to build snowmen and snow caves, and we provide sleds and shovels for snowy adventures.

Although Chalet Hakuba does not have underfloor heating, the entire property stays comfortably warm thanks to gas and kerosene heaters in every bedroom, living room, and the dry room. The dry room also includes space for boots, backpacks, and ski gear, with a secure entry area for storing skis and snowboards.

High-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, with charging stations (including GoPro ports) in every room. While there are no TVs in the bedrooms, communal areas are fully equipped for entertainment. There’s also a house phone available for local calls — perfect for booking ski schools, taxis, or dinner reservations.

There’s space to park up to five vehicles on-site. If you’re looking to explore other ski areas in the Hakuba Valley, shuttle buses run from the nearby Sakka lift, or we can connect you with local car rental services such as Windy Lodge, who offer delivery and pickup right to your door.

Dining out is a treat — with many well known restaurants only but a short walk away. Chalet Hakuba is not staffed, but you’ll receive a warm personal welcome and orientation upon arrival. While it’s not a luxury property, it offers an authentic alpine experience — well-renovated, generously sized, and thoughtfully equipped for families and groups who value location, comfort, and shared moments in the mountains.
