Restaurants & Nightlife

The Shiga Kogen ski resort is spread out and most hotels are designed to cater for the Japanese guests’ needs – filling and tasty meals, a good stock of beers and sake, and maybe a place for a spot of karaoke. As such, the nightlife in Shiga Kogen is not as developed as other ski resorts. In Ichinose area, there are a few bars where locals and ski visitors gather, but outside of this, most people will enjoy some beers in their hotel bars, and call it a night.

Most hotels will have an in-house restaurant, and many guests prebook a half board plan, with morning and evening meals within the hotel. In anticipation of this, hotels do plan a variety of dishes so that you do not bore of their food. If you are in the mood for trying something a little more traditional, spend the afternoon and evening in the nearby onsen village of Yudanaka at the base of Shiga Kogen mountain, and try the popular soba noodles, warming winter hot pots, or authentic sushi.
