Shiga Kogen Getting Around
Shiga Kogen ski resort does not have too much of a central village, more accurately it is spread out along a windy road that weaves through the ski resort. Ski shuttles are available during the day, as an alternative to using lifts and gondolas to traverse the ski resorts. A local bus runs through the ski resort and down to the snow monkey park and further on to Yudanaka train station.
Shiga Kogen ATMs, Bank & Cash
Japan is still very much a cash economy, so it is highly recommended to purchase Yen cash before you arrive in Japan or arrange it before you leave the airport you entered in to. The only place in Shiga Kogen to withdraw cash with an international credit card is the Post Office, open weekdays 9:00am – 5:30pm and Saturdays 9:00am – 12:30pm. The Shiga Kogen bus stop “Hasuike” is closest reach to post office and ATM.
Shiga Kogen Shopping
Shiga Kogen is not known for its shopping facilities; come prepared! There are not many shops selling ski gear, so if you are looking to purchase your own, best do it in Tokyo before arriving. Most hotels have their own, or nearby ski and snowboard rental equipment shops.
As far as grocery shopping goes, there are a few stores inside hotels selling a variety of snacks and souvenirs, but not anything resembling a supermarket.

Shiga Kogen is a huge ski resort, spread out along the high plains, so that almost all hotels have ski in ski out access. The main cluster of restaurants and hotels are at Ichinose, Yakebitaiyama, and Okushiga. Check out the map below to find nearby dining and accommodations.
Shiga Kogen Onsen Guide
Shiga Kogen has a number of close by onsens, but unfortunately not nearby the most popular hotels for ski resort access. If you are after an authentic onsen experience, a trip to Yudanaka onsen village is highly worthwhile. Wander through the narrow cobblestone alleys, and relax in the mineral rich waters, allowing your sore ski muscles to recuperate as you warm to the core. Buses run on schedule between Yudanaka and hotels in Shiga Kogen ski resort.
