ALP Lodge

Hakuba Alp Lodge is a basic, budget-style lodge whose primary appeal is its exceptional proximity to the Happo One Gondola. Located near the base of Happo One, the property sits approximately 50 metres from the ski slope, around 100 metres to the nearest lift, and roughly a 100-metre walk to the Happo Adam Gondola. In good conditions, it is possible to ski back close to the lodge, making it a convenient choice for guests who prioritize lift access above all else.

While often priced higher than typical budget accommodation, this reflects the lodge’s high-demand location. Guests should be aware that Alp Lodge offers very simple accommodation, and expectations should be set accordingly. Facilities, rooms, and common areas are functional but a little dated.

The lodge was lightly refurbished in 2018 and room types include twin, double, triple, traditional Japanese tatami rooms, and a small number of simple self-contained apartments. Furnishings and décor are sparse, and overall comfort levels are basic.

Bathrooms are shared, and guests can use a private reservation-style hot bath, which is not a natural onsen but provides hot water bathing. There is also a small café area overlooking the slopes. Breakfast is simple and continental in style, typically consisting of bread, spreads, cold cuts, and salad.

In terms of classification, Hakuba Alp Lodge is best considered a 2-star property, offering accommodation that is closer to hostel or basic lodge standards rather than a traditional hotel experience. Hakuba Alp Lodge is best suited to budget-conscious skiers who value immediate gondola access above comfort, room quality, or facilities, and who are comfortable with older, no-frills accommodation.
